2015 has been a fantastic year!
I have seen some beautiful places and worked on awesome projects, and what better way to show off the year than an Instagram recap of 2015.
I wasn’t born and raised in LA, but after living there for 11 years, I definitely considered it home. These 2 pics were taken shortly before packing up and leaving the city of angels.
Best Friends Animal Society
For years I wanted to drive to Kanab, Utah and volunteer at Best Friends Animal Society. After leaving LA, I decided to make a stop off at the sanctuary and work there for a couple of days before continuing on to Kansas.
It has been a long time since I lived in the sunflower state, but Kansas will always hold a special place in my heart. I spent 3 weeks in Kansas visiting my family and friends before continuing eastward.
New York City
Visiting NY was looonnnng overdue. 14 years had passed since I last visited the city, and now that I have so many friends living there it was necessary to stop off before heading out of the country.
I had a week before my 3 months of volunteering began and wanted to do something fun, so of course I had to pick Bali!
Pom Pom Island
I spent 6 weeks on this little island volunteering with TRACC, and pretty much every minute there was a blast. I got to scuba dive every day and help rebuild the coral reef, and I learned loads about coral and the state of our oceans.
Right after Pom Pom Island, I made my way to North Sulawesi to volunteer at Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Center for 4 weeks. If you haven’t been to North Sulawesi, I strongly suggest adding it to your list of destinations.
Lembeh is also in North Sulawesi, but I figured it needed a section all its own. It’s one of the top dive sites in the world, and any dive enthusiast should spend at least a weekend in the strait.
After 3 months in Borneo, I was ready for a change of venue…..not to mention ready to see my boyfriend again. I flew west to Frankfurt to meet up with Alan, and we spent a week exploring the city.
Alan and I lived in Budapest for 5 weeks and that was not nearly enough! This city is amazing, and I cannot wait to go back.
Our rainy day in Eger was one of my favorite travel memories of the year. Even with the weather being bad, it was the perfect day.
I wasn’t expecting to find any animal sanctuaries while we were in Hungary, but low and behold there is Medveotthon.
I almost didn’t go to Heidelberg because of the weather, but my sister talked me into it, and I’m so glad I agreed to go.
If you are a wine lover like me, then you have to visit the Alsace wine region in France.
Last stop in Europe before making my way back to SE Asia. I stuffed myself senseless with pancakes, waffles, wine, and cheese.
Back to Thailand and volunteering with elephants.
I spent 4 weeks in total in Bangkok, and personally that was a bit too long for me, but I’m glad I got to see more of the city this time around.
Chiang Mai is one of my favorite cities, so Alan and I decided it would be our home base for the last few months of our trip.
Our Visa run to Laos was quick, but we got to see a good portion of Vientiane and Luang Prabang before coming back to Chiang Mai.
Volunteering with Elephant Nature Park Dogs
This is my last volunteer project of the year, and it was a really special one because I was able to share the experience with Alan.
Our big travels are now done for this trip. We have 3 weeks left in Chiang Mai, and then we will head back to the states for a little while.
Looking back through my Instagram photos reminded me of all the great things that have happened this year. I have so much to be thankful for. I’m thankful not only for all the wonderful experiences but also for you the reader.
Thank you for visiting the site and allowing me share my experiences with you! I hope 2016 is a great one for you and your loved ones!
Happy New Year every one! I will see you in 2016!!!!
